WOYWW #601!!

Good Wednesday crafty friends!!! All I can say at the start of this post is WOW!!!!! We had a fabulous Zoom meeting gathering on Saturday!! Thank you so much Julia for organizing a great day!! Everyone was so chatty, witty and just all around fun to finally meet!! We had a large crowd in the afternoon meeting, but the more the merrier, I say! It's always a hoot to see how like minded, crafty folks act when they get together! I hope its something we will all get to do again! Thanks again Julia! :)

Speaking of Julia, it's time to share what's on my work desk as part of WOYWW over on her blog! #601 sounds so weird, but so glad that I am a part of this great group!! So I am still trying to get Christmas gifts finished and in the mail here and there! I hope any of them make it to their destination by Christmas with what's happening in our world right now, but fingers crossed, they will do!

First up, I will show a finished picture of my watercolor Christmas cards that I made for a few people. You had seen one and the start of another, but here are three of them finished and ready to put in the mail.  These cards will be accompanied by their individual gifts that I also have shown snippets of here and there. And second, these are three of the Project Christmas gifts that I have been making.

Winter Bird Cards

Accompanied Project Christmas gifts

Since I don't really have anything else to share on my desk today,  will take liberties to further the discussion that brought tears to my eyes on Saturday. The one of ......Marmite!!! I STILL laugh when I think about it!! After doing some extensive research on the subject,  I stand by my statement that I find it hard to envision eating something that you can spread on bread, toast, biscuits and crackers and at the same time used it to enhance stews and casseroles......things that make you go hmmmmmmm......LOLOL

Hmmmmmmmm?

It has also come to my attention that the name "marmite" is often used as a metaphor for something that is an acquired taste or tends to polarize opinion.  That being said, it would seem therefore, according to my ex husband, that marmite and I have a lot in common!!! In addition, it also seems that marmite has been used as an ingredient in cocktails. That being said, Julia, I encourage you to come up with some fine concoction using that lovely bottle of gin!!  LOLOL  I, however, will take your word for whatever miracle of madness that crosses your lips!!!

I must add that the above antics are all in fun and I am sure it is something that is part of your culture that many enjoy and have since around 1902. I will point out that there is nothing that I won't try, once, so given the opportunity I would. So for all you marmite lovers out there, carry on and enjoy!!! LOL

Well, I will call it a wrap for this Wednesday!! Thank you again Julia and all you lovely ladies that took the time to take part on Saturday. I do want to give a shout out to my long time online pal Zsuzsa!! She crafted away Saturday like a boss and I didn't even get to talk to her!! It was so good to see your smiling face and really hope we can all meet up again and I can give you a proper shout out!! Hugs to you friend!

Happy Wednesday to all and now to get to your crafty spaces! :)

  1. As soon as I saw your name, I had to come visit, even though I'm going in order with everyone else. I laughed so hard at the marmite. I wanted to tell you, but couldn't type fast enough, are you familiar with Nutella? It's sold in grocery stores in the states, where we live. It's a very sweet hazelnut cocoa spread. Think of the consistency of Nutella, but NOT the taste and you have what Marmite looks like. To me, it's disgusting, but lots of people love it.

I really enjoyed seeing and hearing you on Saturday and I laughed so hard every time you came on the screen. Loved seeing your daughter, too. As fr your desk, those birds look quite lovely. Happy WOYWW from #2.

    1. Elizabeth!! Tooooooo funny!! I totally understand! I think we all got a pretty good kick out that delicacy!! LOL I am familiar with Nutella! My kids loved it growing up and also put it on their toast!! Nutella is very sweet and I really can't eat anything that sweet, but it was a must staple in our home for breakfast!! My one daughter really loves it on strawberries! That being said, from what everyone describes, I can't imagine putting marmite on strawberries! LOL I loved seeing everyone! It was great fun!! And thank you for your comment on my daughter!! She thought it was so neat how we were all meeting up!! Thanks for stopping in! Blessings! :)

  2. You made me laugh so much on Saturday!! Trying to describe Marmite is quite tricky, it’s very concentrated and salty, a real love/hate thing. It was great to meet you and your daughter too, isn’t technology brilliant these days? Ordinarily our paths wouldn’t have crossed so it’s a big thanks to Julia and WOYWW that they did. Love those winter bird cards, they’re beautiful!

    1. Who you talking to????? I couldn't even look at you or the flood waters were coming!! LOL I had great fun Jan!! Technology is the best and I just loved the fact that I was sitting there talking to all you lovely ladies across the pond!! Just a few short years ago, we wouldn't have dreamed of doing that!! We are so lucky to be sure!! Thanks for your encouraging words on my cards! I so enjoyed doing them! Blessings to you Jan and I look forward to another meet up!

  3. Felicia, it was so lovely to see you too! I love your accent - very American! It's true we didn't get to talk much, but it still felt like being in a the same room and if you feel like having a good old natter, we can always get together on Zoom! It was lovely to see your beautiful daughter too! I must have missed the marmite conversation - I love the stuff myself, have it almost every morning on my toast and I can confirm that it is very much an acquired taste. I was introduced to it when I first visited Britain at the end of the 1980's - I first thought it was awful, but then as you develop a taste for it, you start to crave it. It must be all that salt in it that's so addictive! Let me know if you want to try it - I'll send you some! My goodness, those watercolour cards look amazing! I can only admire such talent as I know I would never find the patience to work on anything so detailed - instant gratification is the name of the game for me which I get from just smudging the paint around LOL! The zentangled Christmas ornaments with the little red glitter dots look lovely as well! Again, it was so nice to see you online - thanks for the shout out! Hope to see you again soon! xx zsuzsa #23

    1. I am so tickled about your "accent" comment! I wonder how I actually sound to others?????? But I LOVE, LOVE hearing British accents. I am not sure the proper way to say that because I am sure you are all from different regions and dialects and maybe don't like to be referred to as "British?" These days you have to be careful about what you say to ANYONE....especially in America where EVERYTHING OFFENDS EVERYBODY!! The land of where "freedom of speech and freedom of religion" have been taken to the utmost extreme! Don't get me started! Thank you for your comment on my sweet girl as well! She will be thrilled to have been commented on! She comes for the "selfie" era, Lord help!! I'm sure they will look back on it and think, now why did I take so many pictures of myself!!! LOLOL I think you did miss the marmite conversation...it was after you signed off, I believe! It was a full blown discussion to where Jan and I got so tickled that I couldn't even look at her without breaking down again!! It was great fun and confirmed to me that laughing is good for the soul! Thank you, AS ALWAYS, for the encouraging words on my watercolor cards!! I never thought I would have the patience either, but when I got started with watercolors, it was no turning back. I love them!! I am still learning and wish I could take a class somewhere (not happening anywhere near where I live...which is in the boonies...hee hee) but I would love to learn more technique so that I could properly paint!! And hey...there is something to be said for "smudging" especially Zsuzsa style, because I love everything you do ma'am! :) It was great fun again, seeing you and your smiling face and I'm always game for a Zoom meeting!! So anytime I would love it! We could swap war stories! LOL And maybe actually get to see sweet Oreo! Blessings to you my friend!!

  4. Felicia, I love your cards, they are stunning and so well crafted! I also love your beautiful ornaments! Very elegant!

I looked up Marmite and I think I would have to give that a pass! My son was engaged to a girl from the UK and after the Spotted Dick, I was done! Keeping Kosher has saved me from many food adventures, Baruch HaShem! :D)

Anyway, I am sorry I was unable to attend the Zoom event, I would have loved to meet you! You are one talented lady!

    1. Chana, you were good for my soul today!!! Thank you so much for your lovely encouraging words!! I so enjoy what I do and love blessing others with them!!
I have never had Spotted Dick and would love to sample it, although probably not the "traditional" method with suet! Yuck!!! But if it was modernized, I might be inclined since I love any kind of fruit cake or Christmas cake!! Yes, I can imagine being Kosher WOULD save you!! LOL My grandfather was strict Sephardic Jew, so I totally know where you are coming from! You are such a sweet lady and I thank you for dropping by! I would also loved to have met you as well and maybe next go around it will be a go! :) Blessings to you!

  6. Wow, those little birds are absolutely stunning - your watercolour painting is beautiful. I love the ornaments too, very classy decorations. It was lovely seeing you on Saturday, and your beautiful daughter too, and it was great to put faces to names. I missed the Marmite conversations but love the stuff - we had it in hot water as a drink when we were kids, I have it on toast most mornings and I chuck it in most of my savoury cooking - couldn't live without it!!
Hope you have a good week,

LOL I so enjoyed Saturday as well and I will definitely tell my daughter! She will be stoked about all the people who mentioned her!! You did miss the marmite conversation...we had so many chuckles over it!! I can't imagine putting it in hot water and actually drinking it! I would think it was medicine or I had been a bad girl and that was my penance! LOL I told Zsuzsa I would definitely try it though! I will try anything once!! You live and learn right???? Thanks for stopping in and blessings for the rest of your week! :)

  8. What a fun post, Felicia! I laughed out loud at your bit about the Marmite! I'm glad I raised it during the Zoom because it's always an amusing subject. Everyone's comments on here about it are fun too! Did you see our old Phoebe kitty trying to eat my hubby's breakfast Marmite? If not, here's the YouTube link - it will make you laugh! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8sTHO0gcfk

Your watercolour birdies are just stunning, and I adore your fabulous Zentangle decorations! How talented are you?!!

Thank you for such a lovely comment - I really appreciate it! Thank you for your sweet comment about my hair, too. I coloured it for years and then decided to go grey gracefully and it's a lot less hassle. When I was having my chemo I coloured it every month, however horrible I was feeling - it kept me going in a funny sort of way, committing myself to doing it. I had stripes of orange, blue and purple and everyone loved it at the treatment place. They said it lifted their spirits! I always joked that the colour was a side effect of the chemo! Since going whole-food plant-based I've recently discovered that I am shedding much less hair with daily brushing, and also when I wash it. Years ago when I was young, my long plait was the same thickness all the way down, and as I got older, it was tapering and quite thin at the end, but it's now thick again!! I'm very happy with it, and my hubby is pleased that I've decided to grow it really long again. When we first met, I could sit on it. It used to be very dark, like my dad's. He went snowy white, which is how I hope mine eventually goes!

I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the kitties. They behaved quite well for the camera, I'm pleased to say. They are usually with us as they love the company and the attention - and of course the new furniture we bought just for them lol!

How fun it was seeing you on Zoom! I just wish we could have had a proper conversation. Too much else going on. I'd love to have you over here and we could have a good old natter over a cup of tea. And of course, some Spelt bread lol! So glad you like that. We've finished my first spelt loaf and didn't get around to toasting it, so I shall have to try that next time I make it. I'm glad you like the info on the various different foods too. I love finding out about them.

Thank you for commiserating over my health situation. The delays were all pre-Covid and if they'd got their act together, the whole thing could have been done and dusted before Covid reared its ugly head, and of course, now, with Covid, it's more waiting. Nobody will take responsibility for anything these days and nobody seems to be accountable. I hope my latest stiff letter bears some fruit, but given past experience, I rather doubt it. I do think they are using Covid as an excuse for far too much these days, and I agree with you - what will they do afterwards? No doubt they'll invent something else to blame.

Blessings to you too, and happy WOYWW!

    1. Shoshi, I was so glad to see you come around! I love chatting back and forth with you, I think if we were both in one room, we'd never get anything done but chatting about EVERYTHING!!! LOL It has been said that I have the gift of gab, so it comes honestly! LOL I would especially love to come over for all the amazing dishes! I'm sure I'd have to fight hubby for the spot in line!! LOL He's a lucky man!!

What a great story about your hair during chemo! I bet they loved that!! And I think emotionally it was probably great for you as well!! I used to be able to sit on my hair as well Shoshi! All my life I had long hair until last year when I needed a fresh breath of fresh air in my life after all I had been through and decided to cut it! Now, I don't know if I will ever go back to long hair! I used to say I'd NEVER cut it...isn't that funny! I had always envisioned myself to be that little old lady with the long gray braid! Well, it won't be so long anymore! LOL I'm hoping that me eating plant based will help with the consistency and thickness as well! I started that journey for stomach health reasons, but if it will help my hair after all that I put it through last year, I'm game!!

I do hope everything ends up on your side with all of the health issues! What a hit to your emotions and psyche!! I just pray peace and strength to you as you go through it all! I know God can turn ANYTHING around for our good!! I'm COUNTING on that for you Shoshi!

Blessings to you and thank you so much as always for stopping by! Hugs!

    2. Thanks for your sweet reply, Felicia! I so agree with you on everything! I've had short hair a few times in my life, once when I was still at school (very short) and then I had a page-boy style when I started work. It was a bore doing the heated rollers every morning, though! My hair grows very quickly and it doesn't retain the "straight from the hairdresser" look for long - it's much easier to deal with being long, and I love all the different things you can do with long hair. Little old lady with the long grey braid lol - that's me haha!! There was a lovely lady in our church where we used to live, who was grey-haired but still young-ish - she and her hubby and their son were all quite hippy-like and wore fabulous clothes, and she had such a long plait which she used to twist with ribbons and cords with tassels and it looked amazing. My hair is nearly down to my waist now and by this time next year I might be able to sit on it...

Thank you for encouraging me and reminding me to trust in the Lord for everything regarding my health issues. I'm battling now with the local GP surgery because they aren't getting my monthly emails requesting my repeat prescriptions and I dialled and re-dialled over 50 times this a.m. to try and get through by phone but it was constantly engaged. Eventually I wrote them a letter and my hubby delivered it by hand! Sometimes you have to resort to old-fashioned methods to get anything done these days. It's all such a horrendous waste of time and effort and it gave me a headache. Literally. No reply to my letter about the hospital yet.

Loads of blessings and hugs to you,
      Shoshi x

I thought I'd never get to the posts today, three deliveries of craft stuff, one delivery of a surprise raffle prize, walking dogs, sorting mum's vaccination, trying to finish some cards and that's without the usual stuff like cooking Lol! Loving your cards and gift tags they are lovely. I have to say I do love Marmite but only on toast or crumpet. You really need something bland to put it on as it's very salty. 15. Your bird cards are very pretty unlike the Marmite you have featured. Ugh! I cannot stand the stuff, not even in stews and much prefer a stock cube if I haven't got the real thing. One peculiar thing I do like is an Oxo cube melted in water as a beefy drink. Why I like that with plain cream crackers dipped in I do not know when I cannot think of Marmite without shuddering. Folks are strange.

  20. I wasn't in on the Marmite discussion, but I knew someone from Australia who wanted me to try it, but the smell alone kept me away. Just like the smell of hubby's "tar" Scotch (not that Marmite smells like tar, but it's just not something my nose says would be good in my mouth) I think it is an acquired taste, and maybe even firmly installed in the DNA of people who like Marmite (and Scotch, and cilantro for that matter!)
