WOYWW #453

Good Wednesday all my dear crafty friends!!! I hope today finds you joyous in whatever part of the world you are in!!! It's a rainy day here in my neck of the woods and after my heartfelt post last week about wearing my father's coat, would you believe today that, that coat is already back in the closet!!! Yep right now it's 61 degrees and it is supposed to be up to a high of 71!!! Uggghhhh is all I can say!! Oh well, if only for a moment right??? LOLOL

Well it's time for our weekly desk visits as a part of WOYWW over on Julia's blog Stamping Ground! Come over and take a peek, join in the fun and browse other crafters desks! It's great fun to play along!

So last week, you remember I showed off my new Schmincke watercolor paints and was starting a small piece? Well this week, I will share the finished product. Can I just say that it was glorious using those paints????? They were simply yummy! If ever there were a time that I felt right about spending a pretty penny on something, this would definitely be one of those! You won't regret it. They are just lovely!
So this "little birdie" got its start with a sketch in pencil because I am not confident enough to do anything straight from paint to paper. Then after I was satisfied with that, I then used my new dip pen and india ink to further sketch the little guy. Then came those fabulous paints! I had great fun doing this little guy. I got the idea from watching the birds over at my father's house. He loves birds and has many bird feeders outside his kitchen window. In the mornings when I go to administer his meds, we sit and watch those lovely birds and its precious time together. So it got me wanting to draw one!

My hope is to take a class from a resident artist here in my small town. We are lucky to have him here and I happened to catch him one day and ask if he would be willing to teach a class. We haven't made it happen yet, but hopefully soon. I would love to learn some techniques as I don't know ANY! LOL I've always been a "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of girl! LOL It would be nice to actually know what I was doing sometime! LOL Hopefully this year I can do that!

I've never been fond of drawing people or animals, I am a HUGE nature lover and landscapes have always been my "dream" to paint! People connect with God in different ways, but I connect with Father God through His lovely creation, earth! We've made a mess of it, to be sure, but nevertheless, I see the beauty underneath all that, that He intended! I'm astounded and my breath is taken away, EVERY TIME I gaze upon a vast landscape, an amazing soulful tree, a whispy, intricately colorful flower, a powerful sunset or sunrise or even a tiny mushroom! God is in them all! So my dream is to try to depict that through watercolor! We shall see! Until then, I will keep plugging away at it! LOL

So that's it for me today guys! I hope you all have a great week! I hope to share another goody (I know, I know, I just need to chill out! BUT this IS the last goody for awhile) that I have coming in the mail next week! Eeeek! It's those darned sales, I tell you! LOLOLOL

Peace and blessings!

  2. How lovely that you enjoyed your new paints so much - sometimes it really is worth splashing the cash! Do you ever look at Sandra De's desk? She's an awesome watercolourist and does an online course. Maybe she could give you some pointers?

    1. Jan, I couldn't agree more! I need to pop on over to her desk! I love getting inspiration and tips from other artists.....isn't that how we grow??? And....and online course? That may have to be the way I go seeing that I do live in a very small town and the nearest big town is about 2 1/2 hours away! Geographically not good.....crafting wise anyway! LOLOL Thank you so much for that tip and I look forward to seeing her creativity!!! Thanks for stopping in Jan and be blessed! :)

I too am a birdwatcher, feeder, lover! Thanks so much for sharing your sweet little bird! A yellow Finch? These look like tennis balls in the spring when they come back- each bouncing up and down for their place at the feeders! heehee

    1. Jackie, my sweet cheerleader! You always have such lovely and encouraging things to say! Hey...I LOVE you coming by just as much! :) I could watch birds for hours! One day, when I retire and we fulltime RV, I want to get more into it! We came across a campground host one time that had no less than 20 feeders behind their camper at the campground and it was the most amazing thing to see all of those birds in and out! Just gorgeous! So that's my plan! Too cute about the finches! They are so beautiful to me and I love to see that yellow POP! Thanks, as always, for stopping in my friend and I'm sending that love and hugs RIGHT BACK TO YA! :)

  6. Your little bird is lovely. Pleased the paints turned out as good as you hoped. You really must try the Oxides. I used the Distress inks before but these just go onto card and paper so much smoothly and react so well with water. Thanks for the visit to mine and hope you have a very happy woyww, Angela x17x

    1. Thank you so much Angela! I know, I want to try those Oxides! I've been a little neglectful lately to some of my other mediums because I have been focused on my watercolors! Bad crafter, bad crafter! LOLOLOL Thank you for dropping in and I hope you have a great rest of the week! :) Blessings

  9. Hi Felicia, I adore your bird painting. I once did a painting, when I was about 12 - painting by numbers! I would never have the skill to draw something free hand and then paint it! I hope you get chance to arrange your lesson with your resident artist, it sounds like you would really enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week Heather #28

    1. Heather that is tooooo funny!!! I remember doing those! LOLOL I used to think the same way, but then I got into drawing and loved it! I don't do people or animals (this is the first bird I've done!) I mostly just want to do landscapes. It's only in the recent years that I wanted to attempt to "color" my drawings! Hence the watercolor! I have always known that I wanted it to be watercolor, so I just had to get brave enough to try it! I'm so glad I did! I hope to get that class soon! :) Thanks for stopping by and blessings! :)

  11. Your little birdie is so pretty, Felicia - you are very talented with your gorgeous paints. I so, so agree with you about God's creation. I don't get the opportunity to get out into it very often but even watching it on TV has that effect on me too! However much of a mess we've made of it all, there is just so much wonder to appreciate, isn't there.

Thank you for your sweet comment! I really appreciate all your good wishes and prayers. Life has improved so much over the past week or two since my hubby got more mobile, and it's like a little oasis till I go into hospital. To get my mojo back at this stage is a real bonus too, and I'm really enjoying working on my secret project!

So glad you enjoyed hearing about the kittens too. The naughty girls!

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment Shoshi!! I know, I don't get out ENOUGH for me either! We are a camping family, so I try to take advantage of that EVERY chance I get! When we go camping, I take long hikes, so I am really going to use that to my advantage with my watercolor painting/journaling as well as spending time with God! That's really my favorite time to spend with him, when I'm on hikes! Problem is.....I NEVER want to leave the trails! LOL Yes ma'am, I will continue to lift you and your health up! I know how it feels to get that mojo back when its been on hiatus! It feels like a long lost friend coming home! LOLOL We've all been there to be sure! :) You keep those naughty kitties straight! They look so huggable! :) Blessings to you and thanks for stopping in! :)

  12. Hello Felicia and what a gorgeous painting. Birds, flowers and anything to do with nature are my all time favourite subjects to Paint. You have definitely made the right decision to buy good quality paints it makes all the difference to the quality of your work and I would add buy good quality paper. As LLJ mentioned I signed up with Anna Mason's online tutorial as I love her style of painting. Even though I live in a city it can be hard to find a regular art class that doesn't cost a fortune and I can get to at a convenient time. Online means I paint and learn in my PJ's when it suits me. Having a regular teacher makes all the difference. Have a look online they often have a free tutorial to try out and then it is all about finding a style that suits you. Looking forward to seeing more of your lovely art.

I'm all about learning in my PJ's as well! LOLOL I love her artwork, she is so amazing to be self taught! Thank you again and thank you for dropping by! Many blessings to you! :)

    1. You are soooooo funny Zsuzsa!!!! Drawing has never been my problem, it was always putting color to it that I have issues. I've never had classes, which is what I really want to do so that I can at least act like I know what I am doing! LOLOL Anything I have been doing is strictly from watching Youtube videos and asking questions, etc....There is a gentleman in our "small" town that is a wonderful artist and I have asked him about a possible session, but it has happened as of yet. He is so busy with his art and films documentaries, so who knows if it will happen! It's times like these that I wish I lived nearer to a big city. I haven't been around much lately either Zsuzsa. This is our big convention time of the year for our elected officials to which I have to coordinate, so it's been real busy for me at work as well! You have a GREAT day off and do something for yourself! :) I am going to the beautiful city of Savannah this weekend with my daughter to spend the day and going to an amazing, huge art store while I am there! I can't wait! I hope I don't break the bank! LOLOL I never get to go, so when I go, it's a treat! Have a great weekend my friend and I hope to play along next week with WOYWW! I couldn't get to it this week! Blessings! :)
