Memories!

As a part of Sunday Sentiment I am going to share this quote by George Eliot: "What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined - to strengthen each other - to be at one with each other in silent unspeakable memories."  I love that!  Memories are forever and when shared with another, what a blessed gift indeed!

This past weekend, as she often does, my daughter wanted me to spend "mommy/daughter time" with her.  She is my youngest and still wants to spend time with me, which is wonderful!  Her idea of mommy/daughter time happens to be doing something we both love to do...color!  Yep, I still love to color!  I don't know that I have ever really been good at coloring, but I still love to give it the old school try!  I think something about looking at that box of crayons with ALL those glorious colors seems so inviting to me!  I can make what I am coloring, WHATEVER color I want it to be!  She has a myriad of coloring books and we just sit and pull them all out and color until we just don't want to color anymore.  Part of the fun of it for her is that we don't look at one another's picture until we are completely done and she always puts "to mommy - with a date" on her picture and I do the same on mine.  The best part is when we are flipping through the books to find a page we want to color, we will see one we have done in the past and begin to remember where we were and what we were doing when we had that "color party" together!  It's all part of amazing memories together and will live on as she shares them with her babies one day!

Also as a part of Sentiment Sunday, I did a tag dedicated to my sweet girl as I thought of all of our wonderful memories!  This was a quick and easy tag, but I had the whole idea in my head as we were coloring and so I went straight away into my art closet after our wonderful time together and made her tag. I have an old stamp set (I think it's from Prima - don't quote me on that) with the letter "m" and the sentiment words that go with it.  I clear embossed the "m" first and then I used Dylusions sprays in Vibrant Turquoise, London Blue and Lemon Zest on top.  I heat set the sprays and then used an empty toilet paper roll in black acrylic paint in various spots around the tag. I also dredged the sides through the left over paint. I stamped the sentiments along with a "splotch" stamp from somewhere and then added some ribbon and voila!  Simple and easy!

I have so many wonderful memories from my childhood and the one thing I want my girls to have and carry on are lots of good memories!  My oldest is a "teen" and doesn't have much time for good old mom, but my youngest still loves to spend quality time with me that I cherish! Between the two girls, I know we have lots of time joined together, strengthening each other for many memories to last a lifetime!

How about you?  Are you making wonderful memories today for tomorrow?  Blessings to you!

  2. Felicia, that's a beautiful way to spend some time together, me and my son do it as well, and he is a boy, he loves creating next to me. I loved your tag, it is so important to have a reminder to good times, I need to admit, that all those digital ways that people keep their memories are not so attractive to me, I might be old fashioned I know, and I don't always need a photo or a certain image to remember a particular good time, that's what I loved in your tag, it's wonderful that it reminds you to many things and times and not only to one actual point back in time. Oops I am getting to philosophical, by the way I loved that you entered the challenge, come on you made such a great piece, everyone needs to see it! hugs, Ruth

    1. Ruth, my forever cheerleader! Love your encouragement my friend! I still stick with the mindset that I need you in my bathroom in the mornings to push me through the day!! LOL, LOL! I agree with your sentiments as well. The digitals are fine, and I have a few now and then, but these things last not just physically in time, but emotionally in our hearts and that goes a longer way down the road to me! I love your philosophy, you throw it on me anytime! LOL Thank you so much again Ruth, my friend and a great big HUG and a grin from ear to ear right back to YOU! :)

  5. Oh my Felicia, you have brought back some 'coloring' memories. We would have coloring contests. My husband was always the judge, since he did not care to color!
Now a days we have the grandkids projects hanging on the fridge!
Thank you for sharing you and yours!!

    1. How wonderful is that! My hubby doesn't like to color either, so maybe we can try the same, although, since she is "daddy's girl," I'm thinking she would win EVERY time! LOL!! I have her pictures all over my art walls. Every time she does a new one, she brings it in for me to tape up.....I'm running out of room! LOL Thanks for your sweet comment and sharing your fun too! Blessings :)

  7. I tried to leave a comment earlier, and it disappeared! Here goes again: I love what you have done here, Felicia, especially that beautiful tag. I love how you have been working together and sharing with your daughter. I would love to be able to do things together like that with my mum but she isn't interested in the same things as me, and professes to be "not artistic." I used to spend hours with Dad in the workshop when I was a kid, "helping" (or was it hindering? Lol!) him, and holding things for him, and watching everything he did. I was always very close to my dad.

Thank you for your lovely comment - yes, I was able to do the ironing - I did it the next day! As for my card, I am so glad you like it. I didn't make the envelope for this one as it was a standard size and I have some in my stash. I stamped and inked it to match the card, and made a separate piece for the envelope liner, trimmed to fit the envelope flap, and then glued down. The friend I made it for is going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment and I really wanted to cheer her up - my hubby saw her yesterday morning and she said she was thrilled with the card.

  8. A very beautiful tag, I love how the M stands out. And so beautiful of you to sit down and take time to do something with your daughter. I try to do this as often as possible with my son, only the other day he was making figures from beads you iron, he loves it when I sort out the colors for him and meanwhile we have a little chat.
