WOYWW #366

Good Wednesday all my crafty friends!!!! It has been a HOT MINUTE since I have posted! I have been having beginning summer frenzy and fun! My kiddos finished the school year and have started a plethora of activities, work is crazy with conferences here and there to coordinate and I went on a much needed vacation two weeks ago, so last week I had to play catch up!!! Phew, I'm breaking a sweat! LOLOL All that said, I haven't posted or done a whole lot of crafting to post, ha ha ha! It's all good though! I will share some goodies with you today!

If you will remember some a post or two ago, I mentioned that a dear friend commissioned me to do a large canvas to do for her future daughter in law and son's wedding. She had seen something online somewhere whereby the couple had used a canvas in lieu of the sign in book. It really is a cute idea and me being me, said, "oh sure, I can do that!" Will I ever learn?????? I have NEVER done a huge canvas in my life! LOLOL But, I took the challenge and I have started the process and I will give you a snippet today! I will, of course, share the finished product......if I'm not embarrassed, LOLOLOL!
This canvas is so big that I could definitely not do it on my usual closet crafting table so this is on my kitchen table, to which I am standing up on a bench over top of it!  This is obviously the beginning stages of this piece. I have a LOT left to do, but "do," I WILL do! LOLOL  I just pray that what's in my mind that comes out on the canvas is what my friend is thinking and that it will be something the couple will cherish! Keep your fingers crossed and prayers going up for me my friends! :)

I'm so blessed to have a huge walk-in closet as my very own! When we built a new master bedroom onto our small home, one of the requirements for us both was separate closets and that they were walk-in! It was a needed change because before we were sharing a tiny closet.......NEVER a good thing! LOLOL

All that said I use my closet for many things other than clothes and shoes! Along with my clothes and shoes is on one end my spiritual study area that houses a cabinet full of goodies and a beautiful altar that my husband built me for my private study time. On the other end is my art craft table and supplies on above shelving as well as four pull out drawers underneath my table and some clothing to house all my sprays, paints, other mediums, stamps, papers, dies and Big Shot machine! Yes, I SQUEEZE it all in there! I have rearranged several times to make it all a peaceful atmosphere! LOL

Currently on my "actual" craft table is my Bible Study materials because I like the light on that table to read by and since I am doing my current project on the kitchen table, it all works out! I'm sure many of you know that the kitchen table isn't the best place to work, so I can't wait to get done with this project so that I can be back to the sanctuary of my closet!! LOLOL Some of you may remember that I am working on moving my husband out of one of our out buildings so that I can make it my very on craft shack. Well, I'm still working on him! Send good vibes my way please....I WANT THAT BUILDING! Until then, I am blessed with my informal space!

I mentioned I had been on vacation and it was glorious. I went home to Santa Fe, New Mexico to visit my stepmother and sisters. I had a ball! I didn't want to come back to Georgia and leave them behind! I try to get out at least every year to see them, but sometimes it doesn't always work out that way! If you will remember I was taking some surprise pieces of art that I did for my stepmother and she was thrilled. We hung them on her wall while I was there, so I thought I would give you a glimpse!

The really turned out good and thank goodness they made it one piece through the flight! I hope to make her some others for the future, but for now, I think she has something visible to know how much I love her and how much I love my New Mexico!

The weather was absolutely gorgeous and we ended up doing so many lovely things during my visit this time. One of the things we did was visit a beautiful winery where we sat and enjoyed a spectacular glass of wine! Here's a picture of me and my beautiful sisters! That's me, the old gal with the white shirt on! LOLOL I sorely miss them when we aren't together because we are so close!

I was able to do a hike while I was there which is my most favorite thing to do! And the mountains of Santa Fe are just amazingly beautiful!  They continue to call me from states away and the ache is there until I am able to go again! If you ever get the opportunity to go, you simply must! It's a beautiful spiritual experience on many levels!

Well, I hope you are all having a wonderful beginning to your summer!  I am off to check out what others are doing on their work desks this Wednesday! If you want to play along, simply click here and let us see your digs and you can also check out others' while you are there!

Make it a great Wednesday my friends!

Blessings

  1. First, before I forget, thank you for stopping by to see me already! And I know why you don't have trouble sleeping, you are too busy! I am retired and not quite as active. Although, that said, I do walk a lot, and just finished the V i r t u a l Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada and it took 600 days! My son hiked the Appalachian Trail for real in less than five months! Ok, back to crafting! I do love the colors and concept for your large canvass. Good luck, and for sure show us the finished art! Have a great week! #6

  2. I love your large canvas for the wedding. we went to a wedding only weeks ago and they had a canvas of a tree. The couple asked every guest to print a finger print on it and then write something in a book.
I love your little spiritual area. It's good to have a little space of your own to do Bible study. (and have quiet time with the Lord).
The photo of the Santa Fe mountains looks lovely. I have never been to that area (I live in Spain). Great that you were able to hike. Like Sharon, I have only done virtual hikes (walking4fun.com), which does mean I do walk a lot. (I don't have a car so have to walk everywhere).
Great photo of you and your sister. You look very much alike.
    Happy WOYWW,

    1. Oh Lisca, I love the finger print idea! How creative, right? I am going to do leaves, but maybe they should still have a book for folks that want to write a longer message! The canvas is big, but not that big for all to write messages! Good idea! The Santa Fe mountains are lovely and that is not even a good picture! They are my heart and I miss them already! My family is from Spain! I am only the second generation her in the U.S. Our maiden name is Benavente! I have always wanted to come and see if there are still existing family members that I am not familiar with. My cousin came over years ago and did a geneology study of our family and had a ball! I wish our community was small enough that I could walk everywhere and not have a car, but alas it is not! Thank you for stopping in! Blessings

  7. I really enjoyed your post today! Even if you sound unsure of your canvas project, I think it is looking good and I like the concept of the heart roots. I also enjoyed reading about your walk in closet, your altar and how you want to move your husband out and take over some space. I would LOVE to move my husband out of our closet, haha!

  8. Wow that is one huge canvas - as someone who feels comfortable working on teabag sized work I admire you tackling something that large. I would love to see it when it's finished and I'm sure whatever you do will be greatly treasured - it's looking lovely already.
Thank you so much for visiting my desk earlier, I hope you have a lovely week,

    1. Oh, you are so sweet Diana! You are more than welcome! I think your small work space, is a little more intimidating, although, who am I kidding, it is all intimidating at one time or another! But part of the art of it is letting go, isn't it? I'm still working on that one, but I'm getting there! Thanks for stopping in! :) Blessings

  10. Oh what a lovely picture of you and your sisters! Santa Fe looks amazing. I visited Arizona and Colorado as a youngster but never New Mexico. I am very envious of the closet. My hubby and I share ONE wardrobe (since my toddler was born and the spare wardrobe filled with teeny tiny clothes). Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my desk, Max #31

    1. Oh I love both Arizona and Colorado! The thing about all three states is that even though they may be similar, they all three have their own vibe, which is lovely! If you ever get the opportunity, you must go have a look! :) Bless you on the wardrobe! NEVER again, if I can help it!!! :) You are soo sweet and thank YOU so much for stopping in! :)Blessings

  12. I love the idea of a canvas as a guest sign in for the wedding. You are off to a good start and it will be beautiful. You commented on my blog about making your art into notecards, email me and I'll fill you in on my process. Doorknocker3@yahoo.com. Dorlene

  13. I had to laugh at your story about the canvas. That is SO me, I thought all the way through. I get myself into things, thinking that will be easy and then its not and then I just have to prove to myself that I can do it and usually it all works out fine in the end. Your canvas is looking great!
    Sounds like an amazing holiday.
    Happy belated WOYWW!

    1. Tertia, you are soooo funny, I was tickled reading this!! We sound like we absolutely have the SAME syndrome!! We probably put ourselves through excess stress, but YES, you are right, it usually always works out in the end!!! Maybe I should call that faith instead of stress! LOLOLOL Blessings to you and thanks for dropping in! :)

  14. So sorry I missed this on Wednesday, Felicia! Your canvas is already looking great! Love the idea of the heart as the roots - a marriage has its roots in love after all! Great symbolism! Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your art closet! It is indeed very cozy but there are so many wonderful things going on in such a tiny little space! Hope your hubby will give you that building, but you are able to work your magic anywhere! Love your framed pieces - they remind me of tribal art and perhaps a little bit aztec as well. Beautiful photo of you three ladies - your sister in the middle looks a lot like you! And oooh, is that a REAL tattoo??? I would never have the courage! Have a fantastic weekend Felicia :)))

    1. Zsuzsa my friend! I've been off the grid for several days and got on this morning and saw your comment. Thanks so much for the encouragement. Alas, I wish the whole thing was my idea, but I took ideas from several different pix to come up with this. But your are EXACTLY right, I love the symbolism as well! Yes, I do have a lot going on in that tiny space I call my closet, which is why I am jockeying for that out building that my husband has! LOLOL But that being said it does work and has for years, I just want a cute little place to call my own to create - you know, atmosphere! LOLOLOL Thanks for your sweetness on that score, I need magic to make some of my projects happen! LOLOL The framed pieces are replica's of Kachina Dolls known to Native American tribes whether be it Hopi or Zuni tribes. They are gorgeous art pieces and are VERY expensive. This is about as close as I will ever get to having one! LOLOL My stepmother collects them so I wanted to do some art for her using them that goes along with her Native American theme in her home in Santa Fe. Thanks for the love on our photo! My sister in the middle, Laura, is the baby and she is gorgeous inside and out, so what a compliment! Thank you so much! And YESSSSSSSS, it is a REAL tattoo!!! Do you like it? LOLOL! It is a Tree of Life, which has been my mantra for about two years now. I have several things including jewelry that have the tree on it. It is just really special and has quite a bit of spiritual meaning to me. I never thought I would have the courage either, but I put my big girl pants on and went for it!! It turns out that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! My girlfriend, who has several, and I went together and we made it a party! LOLOL I always wanted one and I thought doggone it, I'm an adult and it's a free country!! LOLOL Give it a whirl my friend! LOL Thanks as always for stopping in my friend, I love hearing from you!!! Blessings

  15. I love the beginnings of this piece. What a beautiful addition to their blessed event. Thank you for stopping by my blog this week. You mentioned my box. I recycle a lot of boxes for various purposes. Anything I can't turn into storage or mulch the garden with, goes to recycling (which winds up being very few pieces LOL0
