Well, I am still trying to play catch up with a LOT of projects! I still have several on my desk. One day I finally finished (push came to shove) was one I will share with you today, which was my Mother's Day present to my mom! I had fun, as always, but I really wanted to make something special for my mom and this is something I have had in the works for awhile. So it was a labor of love and fun with some great products that I got in a recent Mixed Media Kit from the Kraaft Shaak and some other stuff in my stash!
Many of you have read my blog before know of my family's recent task of placing my mother in a nursing home, so I wanted her to have something nice on her door that invites people in and expresses who she is..."faithful!" No matter where we are or the circumstances we are in, if we are in Christ, we can remain faithful that He will be there for us, meet our needs and guide us in all things!:)
I began this wood cross by covering it with gesso and then applying Prima's new chalkboard paint in Sea Breeze just on the outside of the cross. Then on the center part I collaged with Tim Holtz tissue paper and some scrap paper that I had. I have always like the color combination of red and turquoise together so I sprayed the center part with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in, I think, Plumeria and Apple Cobbler? I am going off memory, but I think that is correct. And I just kept spraying until I got eh color I wanted. I then just stamped with some various background stamps that I had with Archival Ink all over the cross.
I let that sit to dry and then gesso'd the "faith" piece. After doing so I sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang in Cattail Copper Brown until I got the color how I wanted it. I edged it with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo and thought it still needed some outlining so I took my Faber Castell Big Brush Pen in Cobalt Turquoise and did some more outlining but though it still needed something else. I stamped with a background stamp in Vintage Photo and used some yummy glass seed beads to further outline. I thought that did the trick
In assembling, I added a cute flower boarder tape down the middle and then hot glued "faith along with bits and bobbles that I had in my "bits and bobbles can" and then added this really cool flower on top that I have had in my stash that I bought out of gluttonous moment (LOL) but had been saving it for just the right piece and here it is! I hot glued some twine to the back to hang it with and voila!
I really like how it turned out and I think mother did as well as she was all cheers and jeers!
Every time I think about how we had to place mother somewhere other than "home," I get a little pain in my heart, but I HAVE to remain faithful that He has got her in the palm of His hand NO MATTER where she is! I marvel at her beautiful spirit and huge smile no matter where she is! That's the type of person I want to strive to be like each and every day!

Today and EVERY DAY my glass is half full because I choose to see my life as one FULL of joy, peace and hope that my brother Jesus sealed for me on the cross! If you think your cup is half empty, I encourage you today to take that cup to the River of Life and fill to the brim and then take it to the Fount daily, He's all about refills! :)
Blessings
That is one gorgeous cross Felicia! I love the combo of red, turquoise and copper....reminds me of where I live in the southwest :) A beautiful gift for a beautiful lady <3
ReplyDeleteOhhhh Shel, you are just about the sweetest! Thank you so, so much! I moved back here from Santa Fe, NM so I totally know what you mean! I miss my Santa Fe colors! Thank you so much again and blessings to you! :)
DeleteFelicia, what a beautiful sentiment and what I mean by that is not only your lovely project but what you have written in your post. I am sure your mother is going to love what you have created for her and what a wonderful way to greet her friends when they visit her. Also love the great photo of your mother and your sweet daughter.

Chris what a lovely comment! You are so sweet! Thank you so very much! My mother doesn't meet a stranger and that is something she passed on to us! It took me years to figure that whole thing out, but I'm glad I did. My daughter in the picture with her is such a free spirit and herself NEVER meets a stranger! She has a heart of gold just like her grandmother! Thank you again for visiting and commenting! Many blessings to you! :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful gift for your mom and you did a beautiful job on it!!! Your mom has a beautiful smile!!! What a great picture of her and Abigael!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you my sweet friend! I'm trying to keep up with you Wanda!! LOL Thank you for your lovely comment about my mom! She always has had a beautiful smile! She didn't always have things to smile about in her life, but she does now and you know that smiles are contagious! She make those around her smile!:) Abi loves her Grandma and she's got a smile just like her! Thank you so much my friend again! I hope you are well! Many, many blessings to you :)
DeleteWhat a beautiful gift you've made for your mom - she will feel right a home with a piece of you on her door. I love the photo of your mom and daughter together - such a sense of continuum.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you so much Win! I hope she does feel that "home" feeling and love! It's funny that you say that because all of the nurses and CNA's that take care of her love coming to her room because they say it feel like home in there! Isn't that lovely? She's a honey for sure! There is most definitely a continuum there...God has blessed us tremendously right down through the generations! I am definitely a blessed mom and daughter! Thank you again sweet Win! Blessings to you :)
DeleteWhat a lovely idea to do something for your Mum's door which would be inviting. The cross is stunning! Just love it! Your daughter (she looks so like you!) and Mum look so full of life and joy and as if they very much see their glasses are half full. Such a lovely post. That is one of my favourite scriptures which saw me through a very dark time many years ago. His plans for me were definitely very good. Blessing to you my friend. I've been away on a fab holiday in Scotland which is why I haven't been around in blogland.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh Susan, SCOTLAND?????? I have so always wanted to go there!! What a blessings and I hope you had a tremendous time!!! :) Thank you so much for your lovely, lovely comment, as always! I loved doing this for her, she so deserves it and it looks swell on her door! She said since I hung it all of the nurses have come by and commented and she proudly tells them that her daughter made it! LOL, LOL I love it! Abigael does in fact look like me...poor her!!! LOL Her baby pix and mine look so much alike. But that's how it is with my mom and me as well! We've got strong genes!! LOL I know what you mean about that scripture! I have to live by that scripture DAILY. That is His promise to us and I stand by it! We have to hold onto that don't we!? Thank you so much again my sweet friend! Many blessings to you as you get back home and into your routine! hugs!
